Research interests:

My research focuses on combating antimicrobial resistance by studying novel and underexplored bacterial enzyme targets. A particular focus has been the Tet(X) enzymes, an emerging resistance mechanism that catalyses inactivation of tetracycline antibiotics, where we combine assay development, high-throughput screening, medicinal chemistry and structure-guided design to develop potent Tet(X) inhibitors capable of reversing resistance in clinically relevant bacteria. Alongside drug discovery, I investigate the fundamental biochemical mechanisms of tetracycline resistance enzymes and related targets to inform the rational design of next-generation therapeutics.
