Research interests:

I am investigating how proteins in different Mycobacterium species are inhibited by β-lactams, specifically β-transpeptidases, which are essential for cell wall synthesis. Mycobacterium tuberculosis is highly infectious to work with; therefore, Mycobacterium smegmatis is used as a model organism instead. The mechanisms by which proteins in M. smegmatis function are not yet well understood, and I am studying the differences in their reactivity.
